Associates were spending billable time searching for procedural guidance that already existed.

Lux Legal had accumulated over 600 procedure documents, regulatory summaries, and EU compliance guides across several shared drives and internal wikis. Associates, particularly junior ones, spent an average of 4–5 minutes per query navigating folder structures and Ctrl+F through PDFs. Senior partners were regularly interrupted to answer questions the documentation already answered. Knowledge was there; finding it reliably was not.

All 600+ procedure documents, regulatory guidance notes, and EU compliance texts catalogued and prioritised by retrieval importance before ingestion.

Vector store built

Documents chunked, embedded via OpenAI, and indexed in Pinecone. Chunk strategy calibrated so retrieved passages contain full procedural context, not fragmented clauses.

Retrieval pipeline tuned

Top-K retrieval validated against 300 real associate queries sampled from internal Slack history. Precision and recall iterated until in-chat resolution rate exceeded 80%.

Citations surfaced by default

Every answer includes the source document name and section number. Associates can jump to the original text in one click, no blind trust in AI output.

Practice area segmentation ensures corporate associates only retrieve documents relevant to their matters. Sensitive documents restricted to named partners.
